# Fortnite Account Usage Terms

> This page covers the steps that are specific to Fortnite and Epic Games accounts. Complete the standard post-purchase steps that apply to every account first, then follow the Fortnite steps below.

> **Start here first:** The standard steps in **General account usage terms** are required for every account (logging in and checking the account, securing the account and email, checking email access, and the warranty rules). Complete them first. This page only adds what is specific to Fortnite.

# Update the account email to your own

Whenever possible, change the email on the account to your own. This option can take time to appear and may not be available for up to three months. As soon as it is available, you are required to complete the change.

## If the Epic Games password does not work

You have full access to the account, including its email. If the Epic password does not work, click "Can't sign in" on Epic and a verification code will be sent to the account email. Open the account email to get the code and reset the password.

<Card title="Warranty " type="warning">
  You’re obligated to do all the steps mentioned with your new account. If you do not change the Epic Games and Email password, it might void the warranty as you didn’t do the preliminary steps to keep your account safe.
</Card>

## Account email access

Every Fortnite account is an Epic Games account, and the link to its email is included in your delivery instructions. The most common email domains are [rambler.ru](http://rambler.ru), [notletters.com](http://notletters.com), and [firstmail.ltd](http://firstmail.ltd). If the account uses Gmail or Outlook and you need a code, the Partner will provide it in the order chat. If one email link does not work, try the others, and refresh the page if a code does not arrive.

## How to unlink a console and link your Epic account to PSN

Follow these steps in order. If you are using a freshly created PSN account that has never opened or played Fortnite, skip to step 4.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Understand PSN linking requirements." titleSize="h2">
    Your PSN account should not be linked to any Fortnite or Epic Games account. If you ever opened Fortnite on your PlayStation, a default Epic account was created for that PSN automatically and must be unlinked first. If you played Fortnite on PlayStation but never fully registered through Epic Games, do that first before you can unlink.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Unlink your old Fortnite account from PSN. " titleSize="h2">
    Log in to the Epic Games website in a browser with your Fortnite credentials. Go to Account, then Apps and Accounts. Under PlayStation Network, press Remove to unlink. Keep the browser open.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Remove restrictions if required. " titleSize="h2">
    Some accounts need a second step called Restriction Removal. While still logged in to Epic, open the Epic Games restriction removal wizard. If restrictions exist, select the PSN option to remove them. If there are none, sign out of the old account to continue.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Log in with your purchased Epic Games account." titleSize="h2">
    Log in to the Epic Games website with the credentials the Partner provided. If you need a login or 2FA code, open the account email inbox to get it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open Apps and Accounts on Epic." titleSize="h2">
    Go to Account, then Apps and Accounts. Under PlayStation Network, press Connect and follow the prompt to connect a PSN account. Enter your Sony/PSN credentials when the pop-up appears. If you get an error that the account is already connected, repeat steps 2 and 3 to fully unlink any previous connection.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your PSN credentials" titleSize="h2">
    Enter the PSN credentials of your account to complete the linking.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open Fortnite on PlayStation" titleSize="h2">
    The linking should be fully linked.
  </Step>

# Fortnite safety notes

The prohibited activities in [**General Account Usage Terms**](/documentation/for-customers/account-usage-terms/general-account-usage-terms) apply to Fortnite as well. A few points specific to Fortnite and Epic Games:

* Never contact Epic Games support.
* Never use cheats in any game. Anti-cheat bans can carry across titles, cheating in other games can be detected and result in the account getting banned in Fortnite.
* Do not use exploits for free Battle Pass XP.
* Do not play tournaments on the account.
* Avoid in-game purchases for the first month.

Doing any of these can compromise the account and may void the warranty.
